Nonito Donaire (21-1, 14 knockouts) successfully defended his IBF
flyweight title with an impressive fourth-round KO of undefeated Raul
Martinez (24-1, 14 KOs) in the main event of a Top Rank-promoted card
in Manila, Philippines on Saturday.
Donaire dominated the entire fight, boxing from the outside and
pot-shotting Martinez at will. Donarie dropped Martinez twice in the
first round, once in the second round and a final time in the fourth
before referee Pete Podgorski waved the bout off.
In the co-featured bout, former 108-pound titleholder Brian Viloria
(25-2, 15 KOs) won his second major title by knocking out longtime IBF
beltholder Ulises Solis (28-2, 20 KOs) in the 11th round of a brisk and
competitive fight.
Viloria repeatedly rocked Solis in the early parts of the majority of
rounds, but the well-schooled Mexican titleholder never stopped coming
forward, throwing punches and trying to win.
However, the veteran marched into a right cross that crumpled him to
the canvas where he remained for the 10 count in the 11th round.
