Bible Reading

Daily Bible reading is a powerful source of spiritual strength to the Christian. Most of us eat food every day. Otherwise, our physical bodies become weak. We are not just physical beings, but spiritual as well. Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). We need daily spiritual bread also.

Bible Study

We also need to study the Word. The Jews at Berea believed that Jesus was the Christ because their minds were prepared for the truth. They examined the Scriptures daily and received the word with great eagerness. It was a habit. This is why Luke refers to them as being “noble-minded” (See Acts 17:10-12). God speaks to us as He guides us through His Word. The apostle Peter said, “No prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20). We should not approach God’s Word seeking confirmation of our own personal desires. Rather, we should study His Word to understand what He is saying to us. All of us have been misunderstood at some time in our lives. Someone took part of what we said and changed what we meant. How much worse it is if we misunderstand what God means.

The best interpreter of the Bible is the Bible itself, the source of consistent truth. Though God used many human authors, the Holy Spirit is the Bible’s true Author. When we have a question about any part of Scripture, we should examine other parts that apply to that particular truth to understand it more clearly.

Bible Meditation

Meditation is giving time in our thought life to God’s Word. When His Word is already in our minds, the Holy Spirit can bring it to our remembrance. The apostle Paul said, “Let the word of Christ richly live in you” (Colossians 3:16). This means the Word should not be a stranger, but live and be at home within us.
